Portland Coffee's Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Dark Roast Coffee is a unique, community-oriented, and delicious blend that is deeply ingrained in Ethiopian culture. The beans used in this roast are collected from over 500 small local farmers, making it truly a coffee for the people by the people.
The flavor profile of this dark roast is a perfect balance of praline with hints of berry and plum, all with a touch of floral notes. Roaster's notes describe the beans as big and bold, with huge notes of dark berry and fruit. Our roasters are always experimenting to bring out the unique character of these premium Ethiopian beans from the Yirgacheffe region.
Ethiopia is known as the birthplace of coffee, and this is reflected in the traditions and culture in this region. The coffee plant grows wild in Ethiopian forests, and it was there that it was first harvested and cultivated. As a result, coffee is a significant part of Ethiopian heritage, more so than in any other part of the world.
The Testi Adorsi washing station in Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia, is where the beans for this roast are processed. The washing station serves around 500 smallholder farmers in the area, who deliver their ripe cherry to the Gersi collection point for processing at this washing station. The coffee here is dried on raised beds for 15–18 days, which contributes to the coffee's unique flavor profile.
Overall, Portland Coffee's Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Dark Roast Coffee’s unique flavor profile is the result of the region's rich history and the hard work of the 500 small local farmers who contribute to this rich cup. If you haven’t tried it yet, we recommend ordering a bag to give it a taste!
